How to find the points

The first thing a new Shiatsu student wonders is: 'Am I pressing the right spot?' You will, with practice, be able to tell by touch, but in the meantime the following pointers may help. The major points lie along channels or meridians, whose courses are often compared with water channels, following the natural features or 'geography' of the body. So points are usually located in 'hollows' that lie within or between bone features and muscle groups. Valuable Shiatsu treatment can be administered, however, even when you are not on a conventional 'pressure point'. The best policy is to follow the photographs in a sequence for approximate location, then work with a sense of touch for a more accurate position, but leave the study of channel and point location until you move on to Part Three.
